FOAF Foundation Technical Roadmap

This roadmap outlines the phased development of the FOAF ecosystem. It begins with GrowOperative and expands into a broader marketplace for trust-based, fiat-independent trade. Each milestone supports our mission of building community-owned infrastructure for everyday exchange.

2025

GrowOperative Platform

  • Add support for mutual credit and fiat-denominated IOUs in the backend
  • Improve per-unit pricing and trade logic in the user interface
  • Refine visibility and trust-routing UX for contact-based trading

Blockchain and DAO Infrastructure

  • Deploy initial FOAF and RHEO smart contracts
  • Implement RHEO transaction fees (3 percent of value) and trust-routing premiums (1 percent per hop)
  • Begin DAO tooling for staking, voting, and treasury disbursement

Outreach and Preparation

  • Produce onboarding videos explaining listing, trust-based trades, and settlement paths
  • Begin grassroots outreach to early resilience hubs
  • Raise $300K to fund development, apps, content, and infrastructure (see pitch deck)

Q2 2026

Native and Web Apps

  • Launch native apps for iOS and Android to complement the PWA
  • Maintain browser access for flexibility and ease of use
  • All interfaces support contact-based trade routing and local pricing

Alpha Rollout

  • Begin multi-region alpha with real trades, credit flows, and trust-path resolution
  • Collect early feedback through local organizers and community channels

Education and Support

  • Release explainer videos focused on mutual credit, contact trust, and RHEO routing
  • Support local testers through Signal, Telegram, and in-app channels

Q4 2026

FOAF Marketplace Prototype

  • Expand backend to support service listings, time-tracking, and multi-party trades
  • Extend database schema to include services, tools, and labor
  • Prepare governance tooling for initial proposals and education

Airdrop Distribution

  • Execute token airdrops for early contributors and trust chain participants (see airdrops)

Refinement and Engagement

  • Release new community-facing videos to grow the contributor base
  • Use alpha data to guide DAO proposal cycles

2027

Marketplace Launch

  • Deploy full FOAF Marketplace with expanded trade types and global availability
  • Launch trust-based reputation system with routing indicators
  • Optimize backend and blockchain components for community-scale volume

Governance Transition

  • Empower DAO with full authority over fees, upgrades, and contributor rewards (see dao-transition)

  • Begin treasury-funded bounties and community-driven protocol improvements

Why It Matters

  • Resilience: Enables trading and collaboration when money is scarce or supply chains are unreliable
  • Ease of Use: People can join with no tokens, no technical setup, and no exposure to crypto complexity
  • Self Funding: Every trade sustains the network through small RHEO flows
  • Growth by Trust: Trade expands through social networks, not ads or extractive platforms
